I am receiving an insufficient balance error, in multiple wallets and on many transactions when the wallets still show a positive remaining balance after the transaction.

March 14th Update:
UPDATED:
We have deployed a fix for Ethereum users, we will be re-syncing users with 0 manual transactions within the next week, new wallets added should now see the correct fee handling. Our team is exploring alternative methods to update users who have made manual changes and need their exchanges updated. We will share more once we have a process in place to avoid minimal disruption in your manual changes. Alternatively, if you would like to prompt the update yourself - users can remove their ETH wallets (Ethereum public address) and re-add them to see the latest updates. CAUTION:
Doing so will delete all manual transactions for those exchanges so please take that into account should you decide to make this update. The following forum posts have been resolved:
- Buyer's fees are being deducted from seller's wallet balance for NFT sales
- Transactions with multiple outgoing tokens may multiply fee disposals by the number of disposed tokens
IN-PROGRESS:
Our team is currently working on fee related fixes for BTC, a lingering Coinbase Pro issue affecting a small subset of users and re-enabling our remaining balance feature. March 9th Update:

March 8th Update:
Hi all, we have deployed an update for Coinbase Pro, Binance, Binance US, Gemini, and Kraken fee handling. The update is being rolled out in increments to users with 0 manual edited / ignored transactions for those exchanges, users should see the changes reflected over the next day or so. Our team has prioritized fee handling as most users are seeing insufficient balance errors due to fee double/multi- spending or incorrect fee handling in general.
Things to look forward to:
- Fee handling on Ethereum
- Re-enabling our remaining balance feature
March 3rd Update:
Our team has made some small changes this week, we have prompted a cost basis calculation for you all - please review your accounts some incremental changes.
In the next week we will have a few updates focused on Coinbase Pro, Binance and some ETH related fee behavior. We highly encourage you continue to review your 'Needs Review' transactions and highlight on this post or create a new post on our Transaction Error board.
Our next goal is to also re-ship our remaining balance feature which should help with identifying the root causes for some negative balance errors that will need to be manually corrected. Thank you all for your patience!
February 23rd Update:
Hi there,
As a follow-up to our previous update on February 17th, we are writing to let you know that our Engineering team continues with their investigation into the increase of insufficient balance errors and that this issue has yet to be fully resolved. Currently, many users are still impacted by a high amount of “Insufficient Balance” errors and are limited without any means to understand if these errors are valid, and if they are, how to properly correct them. The aim of this update is threefold:
#1 Provide context of how this issue surfaced.
#2 Empower users with action items so that they can help themselves.
#3 Lay out a clear picture of how our team is approaching this issue for the foreseeable future.
#1 How this surfaced: The majority of new error notifications surfaced with our new accounting engine (please read about that update here).
The crypto space and our users’ needs have both evolved, and we've updated this core part of our product in order to provide scalable, quality tax calculations for years to come. We are confident that the new tax engine is more accurate than ever before – this greater accuracy, however, has surfaced and increased potential errors and existing bugs that may have previously not been accounted for in our original accounting engine. With that said, we want to be clear and set an expectation that some of these new errors are valid and will require action on your part to solve. We will steer and guide you on how to do that.
Secondly, fixes for some root causes of these errors will arrive gradually – this is not an immediate “flip the light switch” resolution. In the process of the investigation, we have uncovered numerous integration quality issues that our team is urgently fixing.
A few examples:
- Buyer's fees are being deducted from seller's wallet balance for NFT sales
- Transactions with multiple outgoing tokens may multiply fee disposals by the number of disposed tokens
- Double counting of fees on Coinbase Pro & other exchanges

How to currently help yourself:
We understand the urgency in trying to address these errors given the close proximity to the tax deadline. The fastest and most effective manner to get your insufficient balances resolved will be to work through and verify those balance errors. We have a guide here to inform you of how to correct the error. If you are blocked, we want to greatly increase the rate of visibility of errors users are experiencing. To do that, we strongly recommend that you create your own Canny post as a notification of bugs or errors you are experiencing. By participating in Canny, you will shorten the time it takes for bugs and other errors to be investigated and resolved. Please include the following in your post
:
- Wallet/Exchange:
- Transaction example: Please provide steps taken, screenshot, blockers to help you get started.

What to look forward to:
Given how close we are to the tax deadline, we have prioritized significant resources in getting this resolved as quickly as possible. This includes a dedicated team
solely devoted to addressing the integration issues in waves. We will continue to provide weekly updates
to help you stay informed of those shipped fixes. We are providing new tooling for our Support agents
to help speed up troubleshooting and resolution. We are also making new adjustments to how we round balance quantities, for greater flexibility
. Currently, our balancing logic is really strict and can occasionally conflict with wallet balance values causing erroneous balance errors. Finally, the “Remaining Balance” feature will be returning for users at a future date
(we will update you when it has become enabled again).Thank you again for sticking with us and for your continued support for CoinTracker. We are profoundly lucky to have this community of users. Please keep your eyes out for more updates to come next.

I am showing a difference balance than what I have in my coinbase account. It may be a different issue but Cointracker asked me to follow this thread.

Hi Sam,
I'm affected by Coinbase Pro and have used many Manual Transactions to clean up errors in 2021 and 2022. Hoping for a swift resolution because I've already spent weeks preparing these transactions before the new system update.
I've isolated down to a single wallet that has the "Insufficient balance in wallet" error. When I download the CSV, or look through the Cointracker UI, adding up the ETH in and ETH out, the balance in the wallet is positive, and more than enough to cover the transaction that is throwing the error.
In fact, it's my 19th transaction ever in the wallet (or on Ethereum in general), so the math is very simple. Hopefully that's enough to help your team identify the problem.
Here's a link to the page on Etherscan:
Here's a link to the transaction with the error that should not be appearing: https://etherscan.io/tx/0xe9c3c47c02fa8ba224f60387066c001a522c93609767c9f33538ad012e9bf3c1
Attached a screenshot of the 19 transactions and the way it's currently showing up in Cointracker.

I am also getting this with a transfer of usdt from binance to coinbase. Nothing I do will resolve it even though it is correct. I am unsure how to proceed.

Sam, I'm seeing the same error, but all numbers match between transactions in Coinbase Pro and Cointracker. Any ideas?

Any plans to deploy a fix for this issue for Polygon/MATIC? The bug is the same.

CT-0XgDZy3O: I am seeing this same "Insufficient Balance" issue with MATIC. I have one transaction receiving MATIC and another sending the same exact amount of MATIC and this error is shown. UGH. Please fix or provide a work around ASAP!

I am a paying customer of Cointracker. I am having problems with my Coinbase and Coinbase Pro wallets connected to your software. Neither a manual transfer nor a conversion updates the amount of Crypto in that wallet. I'm also getting the insufficient funds error on a few transfers. Your software is not tracking the numbers correctly. Disconnecting and reconnecting the accounts is not an option as the accounts were both closed by Coinbase due to a technical issue on their end. I am happy to do a screen share and have a phone conversation with your support team to explain in further detail. How and when can we connect in a way that is not on a public forum to discuss solving the issues caused by your software so I can complete my taxes? Thank you.

I have the error message "Insufficient balance in wallet" in many of my wallets but these error messages are erroneous because I am certain that my balances are sufficient

I am also receiving these errors. It seems like my issue is due to a bug where the token ids are duplicated in the mint txns. So for example if I minted #902 and 903 my transaction shows #903 twice so #902 is missing. So far I have at least 2 instances of this happening.
Sam
CT-bqYlBJEO: Hi there, this should be resolved! If you remove your ETH wallet and re-add it you should see the the correct IDs reflected.

Sam: Is there any solution to fix this without removing and re-adding a wallet? I have quite a few (necessary) edits on the affected wallet that would be deleted. I can't keep redoing everything. Perhaps a way to manually edit the NFT number?
Sam
CT-eqG1zk4X: Yep! If you are worried about manual changes being affected, alternatively you can create a custom currency and edit any transactions related to the duplicated NFT ID by replacing it with the custom currency. Next steps would include:
- create custom currency for NFT #902
- replace all improperly mapped NFT tokens with NFT #902 custom currency

CT-eqG1zk4X
Sam: Got it. Thanks, Sam! I'll go the custom currency route for this tax year.
As we look forward to future years and as CoinTracker continues to improve its ability to recognize the myriad of transaction types out there, it would be great to see an ability to individually revert/resync a single transaction. I'm imagining a modal that shows the existing transaction/edits on the top and how it would change on the bottom, before accepting the change. Then I could go through my manual transactions and see if I can revert them to an original resync. (Right now I have quite a few manual transactions, but I imagine some of these no longer need manual edits after the recent improvements.)
Appreciate the work you and the team are doing. I'm getting closer and closer to an accurate report for tax filing.
