Some NFT transactions do not accurately reflect the user's activity as shown on the Etherscan transaction. Incorrect data causes the transaction to be the wrong type. This can affect capital gains calculations, since the type of transaction determines whether or not there is a taxable event.
These are some common examples of this issue:
•A transaction in which an NFT is sent to an external wallet the user does not own and did not add to CoinTracker was shown as a trade, with an NFT received. The transaction in Etherscan correctly shows the send with no NFT received in trade.
•A transfer transaction in which a user sent an NFT from one wallet of theirs to another wallet they had also added to CoinTracker is shown as a taxable send. The right side of the transaction should show the arrival of the NFT in the other wallet, but is blank. Etherscan correctly shows the transfer between the user's wallets.
•Gas fees may be reflected on the wrong wallet or attributed to a user who did not pay that fee.
•A transaction may show the wrong token, a duplicated token, or a token that should have appeared on a different transaction.
•A token sent may also incorrectly show again as received on another transaction when in fact another user received the token.
To correct these issues and make tax calculations more accurate, you can manually change your transactions to reflect the correct information. This may mean selecting the "ignore" category for the original transaction and entering separate transactions to represent the activity as it appears on Etherscan.
Please be aware that when we release a fix, we may ask that you undo manual edits. You might also choose to re-add the wallet so that we can populate it with the corrected transactions.
