TurboTax desktop advantages
- Stays signed in to the tax return
- Does not sign out of the app compared to the web app which signs out frequently after inactivity
- Can save multiple working versions of your return with .taxYYYY files
- Useful for quarterly estimated taxes for users with crypto investment income and|or self employed
UX issue with TurboTax uploads
- Location: CT "Tax" view > "Tax filing software" tab
- The "TurboTax CD/Download File" option downloads a .txf file which is not compatible with TurboTax desktop. This seems like the appropriate option for TurboTax desktop because of the "Download File" in the name.
- Workaround: Users of TurboTax desktop should use the CSV file to upload into the TurboTax desktop app under "TurboTax Online File" > Downloads .csv as seen in the screenshot
